It's here

Yesterday afternoon Hi Mu Amps arrived in Berkeley, California after traveling cross country from Cranston, Rhode Island.
I hope to have the first new Hi Mu amps available by November in both 7 watt and 12 watt versions.
By the by, the 7 watt Hi Mu is equivalent to a Fender Tweed Deluxe in terms of volume. Of course, I think the Hi Mu has better tone, running from sweet clean to great grit based on both volume and attack.

How can I tell if my 5.5 has the updated Air gap transformer?

I am pretty sure that by 5.5 does not have the "air gap" transformer. Do you have any? Would you sell them?

Hello just another Hi-Mu owner checking in.

I'm pleasently suprised to see that these amps might be built again. I have a fully loaded 7 watt head with a Hi-Mu bottom that I have been enjoying for many years now.

So is this still happening? I see there haven't been any updates here since Sept.

Let me know when you get the 12 watt model in production.
I'd love to buy one if I can afford it.

Hello, I'm a HiMu owner who needs some help getting my Mu working again.

I have been the owner of a fully loaded 7watt head complete with air gap transformer for a number of years now and I have enjoyed the amp quite a bit.

Unfortunately the amp just stopped working today and when I looked inside I have a burned resistor that I'm not quite sure of the value of.

This is the resisitor that sits between the two big blue 47mf caps

The first band I think is black, the second pretty clearly seems yellow and the third is a very hard call.

I was thinking that the third band was brown but now that I'm looking at it in different light it looks like maybe it could have been violet. It's pretty burned and the color bands definitely have suffered a bit from this.

I would appreciate any help that anyone can offer me here. Thanks.

Mr. Dodsworth,

I too am a HI-MU ownwer. I knew enough of these amps to pick one up when I saw it in 2000. You're in Berkeley, CA? I'm close by and would love to meet with you. I mailed Mr. Breisch some questions years ago, to which I received no reply. I hope you can answer them for me.

Hello ... I have a 7W Hi-Mu that I think was originially a combo but the owner turned into a head cab. I would like to make it a combo again ... do you have specs for a cab so I can have one built?

Thanks,

Hi. I have a maxed-out Hi-Mu head, 7W I think. (maxed-out meaning it appears to have just about every option available) If I can find the serial # can you provide a schematic? I can send you pictures also.

If anyone has a schematic for a 7 Watter or the ability to identify one resistor for me I would appreciate it greatly.

Mine smoked quite a while ago and one resistor was too burned to identify. The amp has been sitting on my shelf for some time now and I would love to get it back up and running.

This is three a head with all the options and I have a matching cab with it too

Jon,

Send me a picture of the bad part and I'll see if I can figure out which one and the value on my amp.

John,
I have a schematic for the 5.5, just drop me an email and I can find the burnt resistor for you if you haven't found it already.

Hey, I realize that this blog has not been active in ages but I wanted to reach out. I bought a Hi-mu combo back in the mid/late nineties from Barry. I need to make some space so I am looking to sell it. Do you happen to have any suggestions how to find some hi-mu fans out there? I would like it to go to a good home. Thanks. Joe Arcidiacono, NYC

A bit late to the party I would say!

Barry made so few of these practically nobody knows what they are and now there are a ton more low wattage amps around so I wouldn't think a Hi-Mu would go for a whole lot even though they are quite rare. Ebay would probably get the largest audience and attention and even there I would guess potential buyers probably wouldn't know anything about Hi-Mu unless they did a google search and found the few mentions on the internet about these amps. I fixed mine and still enjoy playing it eight years after posting here about it!
